Default SE to SE7

I know this topic has been brought up before, but just curious if anyone out there has completed a transformation. Are the "guts" on the SE there for a an SE-7 conversion? Meaning, rear A/C vents, rear A/C controls, third row A/V controls, third rear seat fastners in rear cargo, under carpet?

I did it 6 months ago. IIRC:

* Need new upper trim where the headrests will be mounted
* Headrest and mounting assy
* Seat belt assy and mounting bolts/brackets (there are existing anchor bolts behind the panel)
* Take out the side cargo compartments
* Need seats with the mounting assemby that mounts to the side
* Cut hole in the carpet to get to the floor anchor holes for the seat leg latches
* You need the seat leg anchor brackets
* I could not find any existing/wiring to hook up the rear A/V controls
* No rear A/C conditioning
* Need to find a rear door interior armrest + mounting screws/brackets (mounted just above the subwoofer)

Find one in a salvage yard that is the same color and strip all the parts off of it.
If your current SE doesn't have rear a/c then you won't have that.
Expect to pay around $200 to $300 for all the necessary parts and hardware.
Once installed plan on changing out your warn out factory suspension to a more HD coil and shock set to handle the additional weight.

X2 what Mike said. I did mine somewhat ala carte and it was not only a pain in the a$$, but more expensive. Part of the problem for me was finding the correct trim color for the 03/04 and trying to conserve money by going piece by piece.

Then of course I'd start working only to find I was missing some little bracket or bolt.

If you have a local u-pull type salvage yard, I'd stay on top of them. They seem to be the most affordable and no shipping to deal with. Otherwise Paul Grant, Will Tillery, or Marty can probably set you up with the whole sha-bang. They're always parting vehicles in the classifieds here and on Dweb.

As for the AC... I'd skip it and use third row parts from a non-rear AC vehicle. I'd love to have it in mine too, but IIRC the vehicle is pretty much assembled around the plumbing for rear AC. So unless you're planning a frame off project... Plus the mechanicals take up rear cargo space on the driver's side. I suppose you could fit the controls and fan to aid air circulation. But I just got a cheap 12V fan that plugs into the rear outlet for the rare occasion that I have 5 or 6 pax.

If you really need it, might just wait for an HSE7 to show up and sell yours.

I wish I would have known you wanted to do this! I actually bought a full setup(EVERYTHING) from Justin at L8 after he tore it out of a car. Went to install it, got frustrated and threw it all away haha.

If I am not in error, I believe that all original SE7s had the rear self leveling suspension, air bag rear springs. So, you may want to install them too, or the extra duty springs mentioned by Mike?

Most 90%+ did but it was still technically an option, though I'm not sure if that was NAS or ROW.

The land rover topix site has a pdf of the contents of the kit and steps to install it.

Zach:

Shame on you for pitching your third row stuff!! The least you could have done is posted something here on the forum and maybe you would have had some takers!

To All:

Would have preferred to have purchased an se7 but the SE that I currently have was just too good of a deal to pass up. My landy has been pretty good so far; thanks in large part to the previous owner who took the landy to the dealer for most routine and non-routine maintenance. Aside from
- pastey oil,
- rear 2nd sunroof crack when opening,
- steering box leak,
- ignition key not working and now I have a temp ignition key,
- getting 12 mpg and using octane gas of 94, rotella t-6 every 4k miles,
- rhythmic time bomb engine tick,
- new front prop

she's really very low maintenance! HONEST!
