Default Seatbelt Installation Driver Side

Problem. Need to install replacement seatbelt and cant unwind it to extend. Is there a trick to unwind it? Never had chance to install it before but now it rolled up all the way in the spool. Mahalo Brah!

That's a bummer, we always extend them and tie a knot so they can't retract. That particular belt needs to be released to access the bolt.

The seatbelt has to be in the exact position that it is mounted in to release, but as yours is pulled all the way in, it might be a lost cause unless you are able to take it apart and release it.

If you end up needing another, PM me and we can work out a deal.

Just give up on it; it's an exercise in madness to try and pull the damn things out if they're not mounted and have retracted all the way. As Abran says, you have to hold them in juuuuuuuust the right position for the inertia reels to unlock. And if you try to disassemble them you almost invariably damage them. Grrrrrrrrrrrrr grrrrrr grrrrrr. DAMHIK.

RIGHT! Damn belt. LOL! Yup, when I saw the broken one the spring is out of the cover already and parts could have been vacuumed long time ago.

I had to do this with one of the rear seatbelts.

you have to disassemble the roller an unwind it, tie the belt in a knot and reassemble. Pain in the butt and took me about 45 minutes.

Is it 100% all the way retracted? I was able to get several rear/middle seat belts to un retract. It's a PITA, but it can be done. If you hold it in your hands and pull in/out in a rather perverted looking motion and it will eventually release maybe 1-1.5inch at a time, keep tension on it, and keep doing it until you get enough out.

I had to do it 2 times on a center rear seat belt when the trim wasn't seater properly & when you folded the seat it retracted to far.

Retracted seat belts are a real PITA. Often the spring goes rusty when it's stood idle for awhile and the damn thing either pulls right out and won't retract or it gets stuck in.

At a point it got 100% retracted coz i tried to roll it and tried pulling it. But eventually, I clamped the unit in a table vise where the bolt hole was located and pull the belt really hard. Not even seconds it got unlock to normal. During installation I clipped both belts near where it was hanging so it wont spring back to the spool. Thanks everybody mystery solved.
