I'm in western Virginia, flip flop between Wise county and Russell. I'd consider a day trip out east for some exploring some time. Depends on if you knew a place to wheel or not. So far I've had no luck anywhere within the state.

NO NOT NOBODY NO HOW! I am going to get it. I appreciate all the input, and if anyone wants to come on over and help me pull the motor, that'd be great. I have all the beer you'd ever want, and a very comfortable couch.
I am going to attempt to replace the bearings first, but realistically it would make more sense to just pull the whole motor, rebuild it, reuse the same valve cover gaskets, (they shouldn't ever be changed) better old pump, stronger head gaskets, all the good stuff. I'd like to keep this one and have a matching one for my fiancé and I.

Who told you to never change the VC gaskets? You have been misinformed, to say the least. I don't know about other vehicles but LR VC gaskets leak like a sonova-- and eventually you will be losing half-quart of motor oil every week. I noticed on mine that these gaskets had hardened, therefore losing the ability to conform to that bottom edge-to-cylinder head. There are hundreds of threads on this subject, as well as some Atlantic-British how-to videos and tech tips simply because it is such a well-known issue. Oh, and its a B**** of a job! Even harder than replacing your lower-end bearings!

My sister and her husband teach as UVA Wise, next time you're headed to wise, let me know, we can probably find an old abandoned coal field or something!

Also it'd actually be Hers and Hers rovers. Common mistake, no hard feelings.

Wow, small world! I'm actually in school at Wise and work in Big Stone right now so I end up spending most of my time over here. Who is your sister and her husband and what do they teach? That would be awesome!

I have an 03 D2 I paid 500.00 for. The 4.6L cranks and runs, but the coolant has gone into the oil. I changed the oil to keep it from getting nasty inside, and I depressurized the coolant system. I crank it only to move it out of my shop and back in. I could fix it, but I'd rather just keep it for parts. Body is good with just one dent under a tail light, interior is clean, and everything minus a RF window motor works. Nice having my own Pick N Pull haha.

Well, I'm hoping its something easy. But I'm prepared to have to rebuild the motor. I love these things and I'm not expecting to get a ton out of either of them, but with my next few checks, I'll get it and start ordering parts and getting ready to start this project. When I finally get it, I'll post some pics.
