Secondary air adapter change and evap fault code reading
Just asking your thoughts here. Doing the heads on my 03 D2 and the service manual states that the secondary air adapters need to be removed and replaced at the time of head gasket renewal. Now normally when the manufacturer asks me to change something, I just do it. This isnt normal. The adapter is just a tube in the head that allows connection for the secondary air pipes. At $75.00 a piece for 4 of them, Im thinking its unnecessary. If they are clear, why change them? Its not like they are a valve or something? What do you think?
Second, I have an evap code however my scanner just says "evap failure" . I cant get into the system and run tests on the individual components or anything. Im using a Snap on Ethos Edge with updates current to 2018. Im not too worried about it at this stage as I had soo may intake leaks and bad hoses on the evap solenoid that it will most likely be resolved by the time Im done but it bugs me I dont have the type of control I enjoy on almost every other make of car. What are you using as a scanner and do you have access issues with the evap system too? Im going to speak with my Snap On dealer next week and see if its a missing bit of software or something. In the meantime i thought I would ask the collective.
Thanks for looking

Just removed mine yesterday and was planning on reusing, glad you asked the question. I didn’t get as far as finding the price on them but at $75 a shot I’m definitely reusing them. From what I have read here, the Nanocom seems to be the scanner of choice. There’s a Foxconn that’s also popular, you can search those terms for more info. Don’t see Torrington come up very often, I was born there.
Thanks guys for confirming my thoughts. I just needed to be sure I wasnt missing something. Thanks for the info on the scanners, hard to believe those would outperform my SnapOn with industry licence but I will have a look for the threads and see if they are getting into the evap with them. Who knows, maybe Ill sell mine and buy a rebuilt engine with the change! lol
Yeah Ahab...I was just gonna buy them until I saw the price!I found two of mine loose so I am guessing they say change them because the new ones will come with fresh thread lock on them. Obviously those being loose will have added to my evap issue so its possible.
Yeah Torrington, landed here by accident . Its not too bad a place. My family is from Bristol so its nice to be here with some trees around me. I have a house by the river near the Goshen Rd so its peaceful.
