Default Secondary Air Removal

Anyone ever thought of removing their secondary air, or actually done so? I have an '04 Disco 2 from California with secondary air, but am in Washington state.

Benefits of removal... less weight, easier to work on since things are more accessible, etc.

Downside.... Gotta plug the manifold holes.. probalby other things I am not thinking of. Anyone done this? Any thoughts on why one would or would not do this?

It can't be done, the ECU will throw fits and shut down the computers ability to manage the engine.
There is no good reason to remove it, no better fuel economy or power.

I think if your vehicle came with secondary air, it is illegal to remove it.

If your state has emissions testing then you cannot remove it.
If not then you can, along with the cats if you want to. But why?
The emissions systems on cars are there to helpALL of us.

Spike is absolutely correct. If you live in an area without emissions requirements you can remove all the emissions equipment. It comes down to a question of what you think you'll gain by doing so. I recall earlier posts on here about removing the cats and it was found that the engine performed worse without them. The engine computers on these trucks is very picy and doesn't like any change from the way it left the factory.

Spike, you and AK are so far off on your last posts.
1) You can not remove the Secondary air, the ECU requires it, you would have to buy another ECU that is not designed to have operate secondary air.
2) Under both State and Federal law, you can not remove any emission devises, again, the ECU's would not be able to stay in closed loop, there would be no fuel or timing management and with out cats and o2 you would run extremely rich. Only in a few countries are the vehicles built to run with out cats and 02's and they are programed to run that way.

Good to know. Makes sense the ECU will go TU.... Thanks

My understanding was the Secondary Air was for California, not for just for states requiring emissions. In Washington, we require emissions, butI believe the rovers sold here don't have the secondary air. (I could be misinformed though... )

Every year, Rover and others must seek approval of the emission standards, if they don't meet the states standarrds then they have to add the secondary air. So not all state or all years have the same system.
