Hello, I am getting an indicatoin of "Secondary Air Valve". It stays and clearing the light helps for only a few minutes.
See the attachement of Code P413.
Any idea how to solve this problem?

Does the fan/blower unit (located on passenger side firewall) kick on during cold startups?

 

If your blower does come on at cold starts then disconnect the hose before you start the truck in the morning and see if its actually blowing any air. It should provide a considerable amount force, more than you'd think.

Then check that plastic pipe you unplugged for cracks, it gets very brittle. I found mine was bandaged up considerably with electrical tape under the protective cover.

I fought with SAI codes for a while and my answer turned out to be crazy simple. The air tube that goes from the vacuum reservoir to the intake manifold had a loose connection. The hose was old and stretched. Replaced the entire plastic hose with standard vacuum tubing and my codes went away.

But, if you dont find your problem to be tubing related Id look at replacing the solenoid valve. I think its like $30.

 

Hi, thanks for your replies. First, it seems that the pump doesn't start in the morning (cold starts). It used to start till a while ago, then it started to be too "noisy" (high RPM and sound) and now it is just quite. I also replaced the solonoid but it didn't help. Can this system be disconnected? Seems it is giving too many problems.

 

Being it is part of a pollution control system, it is designed to be there or make a failure known. Your air pump should run at every cold start up. Pump is dead. They make hair dryer sound when bearing failing. $300 ish. Used parts available, life remaining unknown. If boneyard nearby you could revive your DIY skills (and practice taking it off another truck before touching yours).

 

Hi, thnks for your reply. yes, it made hair dryer sound then went silent. Means that it is dead? Getting a used one is difficult here because there is no pre-used parts markets. A new one will be too expensive I presume. Is there a way to disconnect this system?
