Selling my disco...I think
I live just north of Boston. Took the family to Nantucket Island for the first time for a mini-vacation. Everywhere you turn, I saw Disco IIs. Never seen so many at one time...sort of like all the Disco IIs were on the island for a convention of sorts. Anyway, you could try CL in Nantucket. Maybe you'll get some hits. You'll have to work out the shipping of your rig. Some Disco's were tricked out; some stock. Oh yea, saw a fantastic 110, white (as all were). Aroused my loins and eyebrows.. was a thing of bute. Also, folks who live on the island have mucho dinero, so they could afford a nice disco for Jr. who is studying at some swanky private H.S. or College.
I have a super ad up on CL in CA.
After 3 months - a few bites.
I would probably miss it.
At $5,800 my 2001 is not selling. And low miles at 104,000
And for $5,800 - to buy another car - in Southern California. Most are REAL JUNK with high miles and sun faded paint.
Found you need to put the word perfect in CL to search on - or you will get real junk.
And
1/3 of the cars on CL are admitted by the own ad - salvage.

I sold my 03 with arb front bumper, warn m8000 winch, tf 3" lift, goodridge stainless brake hoses, 255/85r16 km2 tires, and a yet to be installed Greg Davis rear bumper for $5000. The guy seemed happy to get it for the price though he was hesitant until he drove it. He said most that he drove weren't so nice for the same price.
Anyway, he had the rear bumper installed and then listed it on Craigslist for $6500. I'm not sure if he was just trying to flip it or if he had buyers remorse for some reason.
Any way I used the money to help fund a $7000 LR3.

I just filled up my 2001 Discovery II with PREMIUM again in California.
At $4.35 / gallon this is really pizzing me off.
Sadly, I think I am going back to a Saab.
I totally enjoy this Discovery II.
But, 13.8 MPG - I can't need that.

Yeah, I'm spending about $100 per fillup... It bites pretty bad... Luckily, I have not been driving very much, until lately. Quite a few camping trips in Nevada, it's really adding up for those.
Yeah,
if you can save it for special trips, then it is OK.
And, just not drive it.
Will not break down. Will not eat gas.
And if you drive it on a special time - then all the better.
Just commuting to work and back in a Discovery - is ruining the Discovery and the environment and my wallet.
Well, if I get in a wreck, then the large size may help.
The 2012 Dodge Caravan got 29 MPG when I drove it from SFO to LA.
Not that I would be proud to drive one of those.
But, it is larger and better MPG and you can store a house in it.
Go Figure.
The Discovery II is truly make for the trails and offroad.
MPG does not matter on a trail.
