Default Sensor on the Transfer Case?

2001 Disco II SD

I recently replaced the transmission due to drive shaft negligence (make sure to service those, folks). Once everything was back together, I took a couple days to check over everything to make sure it was back together right and realized on the drivers side of the transfer case, there is a sensor (?) that has one of the teeth broken off and the wire that connects to that tooth is melted down a few inches. I'm not sure if I did this during disassembly or if it was done beforehand.

I've looked at my RAVE and searched here, but can't really find the answer I need. Anyone know what this part is? Clearly I need to replace the sensor. Do I also need to replace the wire harness or can I electrical tape it up?

Also, the photo is upside-down, for some reason. Sorry about the orientation problem.

Thanks again for the help!

that's what I kind of thought it was, but couldn't find any confirmation! Just ordered the transfer case wire harness and the sensor.

Thanks for the response!
