wondering whenrover changed the series over from I to II? i'm looking at a 99 for sale but it is a series I, is there a way to check official model year from the VIN? i see others that are listed for sale as '99 but are series II.

 

They made both in 1999. That's the year of the switch !

 

To be more exact, they quit building D1's in 98, those that didn't sell were retagged as 99 D1'a and sold till the inventory was gone, D2's were brought in as a 99 to replace the d1.

 

thanks...musta been a '98 that i drove yesterday then. had 116K miles on it. do the series I's have the air suspension? i read elsewhere that classic RR'sand Series II Disco's have it, I'm a little confused b/c I read also that the Series I was based onthe classic RR?

 

Series 1 never had air.

 

RRC and D1's have a lot of the same parts. I think the frame is the same as wall (not sure). The D1's did not come with airbags.

Oh, and I think you might be confused, The D1 was sold as a 99. They just sold the leftovers....My 97 was actually built in 96...so you can have a D1 or a D2 from 99..
