I am new to the forum. I have searched the forums for all of the information I can about the 04 Discoverys.
I have done my research and it looks like if I am going to buy a Discovery tha the 04 is the year to get. My question is how many problems do people really have with these trucks? What type of monetary commitment am I getting into?
I don't have much mechanical experience. I can change oil and other fluids and can change brake rotors and pads, but that is about the extent of my experience. I have a good friend that has an 04 Discovery and he loves it. I also know the name of a good local Land Rover mechanic.
We do have another car in the household. We have an 08 Mini Cooper. We are looking at the Discovery as a larger car for trips and to haul my gear around and some off roading.

i have had my 04 for almost 2 years. had a 06' rubicon before that.
would not give up my disco for anything. i truly love the rig and love being in it.
if you can do the basics you are in good shape. but start learning to do more advanced stuff as it will save you $$$$ in work on the rig.
its all pretty easy to work on, save for the electronic/computers. other then that its all 40 year old technology under the body.

I think I found an 04 Discovery that I want to buy. I wanted to ask a few questions first though.
The truck has a 2 inch lift kit and also is on 33in tires. The truck also has a new steering shaft and the previous owner recently replaced all of the hoses, tubes, belts, and rebuilt the drive shaft. It has about 90k miles for and cost $11,000. It is the best driving Discovery that I have been in. It has a bit firmer of a ride than most of the ones that I have driven and the steering seems to be much better.
Thoughts?
