Do you know if you have ACE? That is the cornering system. Look for what looks like 2 power steering pumps. If you have 2, you have ACE.

THe sound could be a number of things. Have you checked your belt for tears or anything hanging on it?

I would suggest you spend a little time under the hood and under the truck so that you get a better idea of what you have on your truck. What happens if you are off the road and have a problem? If you have over 45,000 miles on your truck you will need a belt, possibily a belt tensioner and one or both of the idler pulleys replaced. Is the mechanic you are going to a Rover tech. if not you might want to find one who is.
By the way, it takes 10 minutes to replace your serpentine belt, if you have never done it, you might want to watch the mechanic so if you loose one on the road you'll be able to replace it and save a tow bill and the mechanics labor.

The quickest way to tell if you have ACE is to count the pulleys. If you have nine, you have ACE, if you have eight, you don't. That non ACE belt is shorter.

By far not the quickest or easy way to check for ACE, how wants to pull all the fan shrouds off when you can just look at the power steering resivor and see if it has 2 fill caps, one for the power steering one for the ACE.
