Default Serpentine belt

So I took my D2 on a 200mile trip yesterday and the power steering started to get alittle stiff.

I changed the serpentine belt today and everything seemed to be fine but then at idle it made a clunk and and started to make a clanking noise.

It looks like the belt verily slightly tore al which is how the original one looked when I removed it. Anyone have an idea as to what is going on?

I made sure to clear the lower alternator bolt.

I also noticed the tensioner is jumping just a little is that normal? Nothing crazy but definitely moving. I ordered a new one aswell as a new power steering pump for peace of mind.

I’ve been cutting off the ripped up parts of the belt and it seems to be in place now but I’ll still be replacing it tomorrow.

check to make sure that one of your pulleys isn't on backwards. it's possible for some of them to be installed the wrong way around and then they don't quite line up, causing the tearing that you see.

I agree with mollusc, check your pulleys.

Also make sure they spin freely and there is no play in them. If one of them is binding up, it could tear the belt as well as make the tensioner jump

I guess I can replace those too, still waiting for the part to get here but I can pick up the others at the auto zone.

and I’m assuming the very slight bounce in the tensioner is bad?

The bolt on the left is where I’m assuming it’s rubbing. The pulley circled is the only one I see that looks off set is that normal?

the belt should not be running off-centre on any pulley. the centre of every pulley needs to be on the same plane.
