I just put new tires on my disco theyre 29x10.50x15interco trxus AT tires and now when i'm driving the steering wheel shakes very badly after 40 mph. It did this before when i had my steet tires on but now its really bad. I bought an OME stabilizer to try and help but i was shipped the wrong one. Would the stabilizer help that much? Or do i need a front end alignment??

 

I would get the alignment done first. You should really have it aligned when you put on a new set of tires (assuming it's been a while since it was last done). You don't want to ruin those brand new tires.

 

You will notice a good amount of difference with the new stab.

Were the wheels new? If not, have they been checked for straightness???

 

Alignment on a Rover is a toe setting only which will not cause this problem. Thats not to say a tie rod or bushing is not causing it. Yes the new OME stabilizer will make a big difference but you need to correct the problem also.

Tire balance ora bent rim are the most likely culprits. I've had several shops screw up the balancing on new and old tires in the past. You might take it back to them, describe the shimmy and ask them to rebalance the tires and check therims for sraightness.

I put all thewheels on the truck myself i just had a tire shop put the tire on the rim and balance them. and the rims are brand new so they arent bent.

 

did the wheels get balanced after the new tires were on?

 

yes the wheels and rims were brand new when mounted and they were balanced.

 

I had seen too many times when a brand new wheel was bent, just keep it in mind.
