Default Shift **** not releasing!

I was in the drive-through and as I was waiting for them to fill my order I put my 2004 Discovery into park and a few minutes later when I got my drinks I tried to put it into gear and it would not release when I put my foot on the brake and tried to shift. I tried a couple times than finally turned my car off and restarted it and than it released and it allowed me to shift into gear and leave. Later today my wife took my car to the grocery store andshe said it did it again but this time she turned it off and on and it still wouldn't release. She had to do it a few times than it finally released and allowed her to leave. Where should I start? Vaccume leak? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

When it happens again, check if your brake lights light up when your foot is on the pedal. No brake lights = defective brake light switch. If brake lights work, check if the the interlock in the center console is getting power when pedal depressed.

check the brake lights are coming on like morpheus said. are you hearing a click when you hit the brake pedal? if not than your brake light switch is dead. if you hear the click, then check fuse 25 in the cabin fuse box. While you are there to be safe I would look at them all. If they are good, move on to the engine box.

Y'all missing the obvious here, it's the **** food selector switch preventing you from driving off with fast food.

HA HA! No mention of food in the post, only drinks. I was in a drive through Starbucks.
