Question Shift Lock

Just replaced transfer case, front & rear differential on my 96 Disco, I am still sooo confused about the position I should keep my shift lock set in?!?
I've been told to periodically rotate the shifter from Hi/Lo and so on each month, but am I to do this while driving, in park???? Please help me!!!
I need Disco for Dummies!

the easiest way, rather than completely still, is to get it rolling slowly, shift the trans to neutral, make sure you are going under 5 mph( the needle should still be sitting on the peg) and shift your transfercase to low( it should slide right in), then put it back in drive, and your good to go. same deal to put it back to high. the owners manual says you can put the diff lock on at any speed as long as the wheels aren't slipping when you do it. you can move the shifter around the figure 8 any direction you want as long as you follow the above procedure when moving between the high and low settings side to side is easy. hope this helps, I had to figure it out too. It is accually what the hyrogliphics say right above the shifter but it makes more sense when it its explained.
