I wouldnt keep the old one, you cant replace it on the side of the road, I would be more apt to keep a spare brake light switch in the truck, that you can replace with a pocket knife while in a white tux.
When that goes bad you are stuck in park, literally.

No, you just dont want your legs sticking out into traffic and getting run over.

Bought it from a forum member for 2k. I figured for that price we'd drive it for the summer and either love it or sell it. So far so good, we love the damn thing. BTW, my wife loves to drive it. The visibilty is incredible, no blind spots and it rides very well.

Sloppy, where the hell do you live? In your pictures, you always seem to be in a place where people like to take pictures to put on postcards, or car companies like to take brochure photos of their vehicles...LOL!!!

Wherever it is, its beautiful.

Are you threatening me!? I need TP!

That's awesome. I have visions of crazy off-road-ness which draw me to the Land Rover, but reality will probably prove different.

Checked out the 2000 last night, and I was surprised how narrow it seemed inside. Except for the extra height, the interior doesn't seem to be much larger than my wagon. Which honestly is more what I'm after for trails and such. I had a full size Bronco in college that was great off road, but it was so wide you'd end up tree bashing on any trail that wasn't wide open.

No jump seats in the rear of this one, so it's not the one for me, but I would like to get my hands on it for a half day so my wife could drive it.

The jump seats are for small kids. the third seat in your wagon is bigger.
The Discovery is meant to be narrow, the DI (what I have) is even narrower than a DII.
They are narrow so that they can go down trails easier.
When we were car shopping to replace the Carmy after it died I took a tape measure across the back seat of the Disco, measured the flat seat and did not include the humps for the rear wheels. (the rear wheels on a DI protrude into the rear seat)
We needed a car wider than that with a flat rear seat, a car seat, booster seat and a teenager all needed to fit across the seat without killing one another on trips to the in-laws in Kingsley.
A Subraru was to narrow, and we knew we wanted a wagon and NOT a mini van.
We use the "V" for all family functions and I drive the Disco back and forth to work, to pull the utility trailer and to go off roading in *******/Grayling.
The 850 wagon has more usable cargo room than a Disco.
When we go to Torch Lake, we take the "V", to Meijer, the "V", taking the kids to school, the "V", going to Kingsley for Christmas during a snow storm...you guessed it, the Volvo with a set of Blizzaks.
The things gets 35mpg, what would you drive?
Now when we take the kids sledding in Water's during Christams break we take the truck, the snowmobilers just LOVE seeing a full sized SUV coming down the trails.
Yes, if you buy a Disco you too can drive on snowmobile trails without spending money on a Artic Cat.

Um, yeah. About that 3rd seat - both of my V wagons are "R"s so neither has the back seat. I'm a sucker for the sporty bricks. I have a 3 yr old and a 1 yr old that both sit in those huge child seats so there's no room for anyone to sit between them. I've done it before and it sucks to try to climb over those things. And when the Labrador comes along there's not much room left for luggage.

Our little family doesn't necessarily need the extra seats for us, but we seem to run into the situation once a week or so that would be nice to have a couple extra seats for others instead of caravaning 2 cars.

The Disco 2 jump seats look a bit bigger, that's what we're looking at. They'd stay folded up most of the time. I was just looking for a vehicle that would be better at towing than my V and some off-road capability for camping/dirt biking trips, sand dunes and such. Once I saw the Disco was actually in range, I've been stuck on it since. Now I want one just to have one!

I showed my wife something cool yesterday by Googling images of Chevy Tahoe, which shows a bunch of show trucks and maybe 2 or 3 off road shots in the first few pages. Image search Land Rover Discovery and about the same percentage is actually ON the road. That pretty much sold her on the Disco. Just gotta find the right one, and hock my V70R. Still keeping the 850R for my daily driver though.
