Default Should I buy a 99 discovery II?

It's really clean. Less than 60,000 miles. $6500. Loaded with lot's of goodies. However, the owner said it has a coolant leak. I know that could be serious (head gasket - or worse, cracked block). Is there a common problem on these rigs?

I'd really like to get it but I don't know much about them.

Bad head gaskets at around 60-75k seems to be a common problem. If it's as simple as that, some say that it can be taken care of for $1500 by an independent shop.

I did mine myself for half that.

Do a search for coolant leaks and you'll find any number of posts providing you with more info.

if could be a throttle body heater leak that you can fix for free or a a very expensive head gasket that needs repaired. If you can't tell the difference you should pay somebody to check it out. If it need a head gasket I'd pass even if he came down $1,500. There are a lot of good deals out there on rovers.

Great find per the low mileage, but you need to have a qualified Rover mechanic, not a dealer, check it out, pressure test the coolant system if needed to find the leak.
$6500 is way over priced even if real clean so have the owner fix the problem and see if you can buy it for less.

I would agree it is overpriced. I would give 5K for a perfect one with that mileage.
