Should I buy a used 2001 Discovery?

The Disco II has been received well by those having prior experience with other Land Rover models. However ---like any other Land Rover, the upkeep and servicing of this vehicle--- in strict accordance with the factory recommendations--- is crucial. Don't buy one without service records, or be prepared to throw the dice and hope. Read my tech info sections at www.eurotekapg.com to give yourself some knowledge on what to look for when checking out a used vehicle.
A couple of things that come to mind on the Disco II---- If the mileage is 60K or higher make sure the serpentine belt, tensioner, and idler pulley have been replaced. Water pumps can sometimes start weeping arounf the 60-80K mark, so check for signs of coolant leaking. The throttle body heater plate (under the entry snout of the engine air intake plenum) will sprout a leak, and dumps coolant on the left valve cover (as viewed from inside the vehicle). Easy fix with a kit I can provide.
Anyway-- best of luck in searching out a good one.
They are awesome vehicles for the informed ----- pains in the *** for those that think they can drive them with the level of non-involvement typically seen by drivers of Asian vehicles.
