Should I Trade my DI for a DII?
I have the opportunity to trade my 96 DI with 168000 miles for a 99DII with 130000, My DI is on great shape got all the electrical fixed, no leaks new head gasket and just did the 60k service, the DII SE7runs and drives good not engine codes so far and the body is clean with good paint. I will have to give my DI and 2500 is this a good deal?
NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
DII's are so problem prone that it is ridiculous, the 3 amigos, throttle body heater plate, head gaskets, HVAC fan, window regulators...if your truck is in good shape and runs well why get rid of it, pay extra money AND start all over again with the repairs?

I think you are right, it's just that i have cloth seats and no sunroofs and I will like to have that , but you are right it's better to keep the one I already have running strong, rather than start from zero, I'm just going to keep my D1 maybe get a new suspension and maybe a paint job, and keep saving for a low millage 04. thanks.
D2's get a bad rap. I find my 99 D2 drives better then a D1, has more room and pretty much all the same problems had plus the 3 amigos.
If you go drive one, you won't look back.
A paint job and suspension will cost you more then the truck is worth. Spend some time thinking one this one.

If it is paid for then why get rid of it?
The only Land Rovers that I have not yet driven are a Defender and the Series Rovers and the New LR4 that I am going to the new vehicle launch tommorrow night.
Having driven all of them I would still hands down choose a DI over any of the others as a daily driver and off road truck.
New suspension and paint job is still goig to be less than the $2500 that you would need to pony up for the DII that you were looking at.
From a financial stand point youi are better keeping what you got.
From a mechanincal stand point you are better keeping what you got as you know all the history of it.
If you just flat out want a DII then fine, nothing wrong with that.
You can buy used leather DI seats and put them into your truck.

i like getting new rides. there's a certain thrill involved. especially when i can sell mine for high $$ and steal another car. to think that i traded my 01 Volvo V70 + $800 for my 04 Discovery makes me smile.
hopefully the next leap is to a Defender.
so, to each his own. and i believe there's a certain "value" in the thrill of a new car. the crux is keeping that thrill from turning into remorse!
