Default Shredded my tires

So I hit the trails today in Uwharrie and destroyed 4 tires. To top it off, I got a flat before we even started on a gravel road. Get this...it was a freakin piece of sharp gravel that punctured my tread. The other 3 tires got ripped up on the sidewall. Luckily I made it home without a blowout. They were General Grabbers. I guess they did ok for 4 years old and 50000 miles, but still. I think I will be picking up some Duratracks in 265/75 tomorrow. Would like to go to 285/75, but I don't want to re-gear.

Bummer! You'll be happy with Duratracs.

What the hell were you doing to destroy 4 tires, I have to say that has to be a first from someone who must be hot-******* it and or doesn't have a clue how to drive when off road.
I don't run the General Grabbers, but they are a descent tire so what are you doing wrong? Send us pictures of the damage and also what air pressure were you running?

Mike - I can assure you there was no "hot *******".

I was running them at 20psi.

Have you even seen a piece of gravel puncture a tire through the lug of the tread? I haven't. That, coupled with 3 tires with sidewall damage and I can only assume it was time for new tires anyway.

I have seen it thru the side wall, but you are right, never thru the tread, that is unusual.

I will say that these may not be the best tire for the terrain at Uwharrie. The Uwharrie trails are ALL rock, and sharp ones at that. Found this thread on sidewall issues:

RRSPORT.CO.UK • View topic - Pirelli Scorpoin ATR's

I definitely need tires with a stronger sidewall, like the DuraTracs...something other than 2-ply.

I will post some pics soon.

This is just me, but I have 2 sets of tires muds and street tires. This past april I went to URE SAFARI sponsored by CROC (awesome group by the way) I have a set of procvomp muds. I destroyed 1 tire (belt slip) I don't like using my street tires on the trail. I was riding with a friend of mine and he Blew a tire too there. (but he didn't air down) What trail where you on? Hope this made since.

Sure does make sense. We did Rocky Mount, Dutch John and Falls Dam.

2 ply is WAY to few for offroading, I bet the tread was only 4 ply at best which a rock or stick could puncher.
