Default Shredded SERP belt

SO I was on my way to work this morning and my Disco started overheating, lost my power steering, batt light went on. I pulled over right away during rush hour and discovered that my SERP belt was shredded.

Towed it home, got a new belt and replaced it. Noticed that it's riding on the edge of the pully for the belt tensioner. fixed it, and it moved back. WHY? Is the tentioner bad or is there some other reason? Every pully seems to be tight and not wiggling or warped from what I can see.

Any suggestions?

Not know what you are driving all I can do is guess that you have a pulley out of alignment which is causing this problem.

Still the same thoughts, check all the pulleys for play.

the only one that seems to have some play in the tensioner...I do see a slight wiggle left to right. Is that what they do when they wear? I see the wiggle in the arm and not the pulley itself. I also notice that it's mostly walking to the edge of that pulley and not the others (although in the few times I've retracked it, it has also done it on the PS pulley but only twice in the 6 times or so it's tracked to the edge)

Thanks again,
Steve

One or more of your pulleys is bad. Not sure of yoru mileage, but I would replace all of your idler pulleys, including the tensioner. Pay close attention to the water pump. Make sure there is no play. My pump was going out and the pulley and fan were all over the place.
