Default Side mount jerry can mount for Discovery 2?

I really like the concept of this mount. It is for a Defender. It seems like something similar could be done for the Discovery. An aluminum horizontal bottom attachment rail could be riveted to the body. Would present an issue on the right side for filling the tank but would not be that big of a deal. I would like to carry extra gas but would like the weight lower than the roof rack.

I carry mine inside in no vent cans, the 1st day you should ease the pressure generated by heat but that is it. In 9 years I have not had a leak or gas fumes. I carry 40 liters where teh 60% seat used to sit.

I do not know about side mounts, but I have seen ladder mounts for jerry cans

Yeah, in the back keeps it out of harms way. Well above rear impact level...unless a semi or something...but if that's the case...what's a little extra flames...lol.

best answer is on a spare tire swing out to avoid adding more weight to the back door. But those options are extremely limited/costly unless going the custom route.

You might consider driving a bit slower.

You are correct. I am almost 100% certain I will go with a rear mount option instead. I'm just exploring the idea. A rear mount will keep them even lower than a side mount. I deeply dislike rooftop mount options as they add so much weight up top and are much more likely to get in the way. I want to add several cans, however, combination of fuel and water. Do you know where I would find data as to how much weight the door hinges can safely handle? The spare will be going up top. Thanks.

A good chainsaw will fix just about anything! Point taken. I'm now focused more on a rear mounting solutions. I still think the side mounts is a better idea than roof mounts. Rear mount is likely by far the best option.
