Default Are the side steps worth adding?

I don't have them currently, but thinking about a 2" lift and it's already a bit tall for the wife and toddler. My one hatred of side steps in general is when they feel flex-y. Do the Disco side steps feel solid of flimsy?

Saw this kit from AB that looks good. Can't tell if it's OEM or aftermarket, but guessing aftermarket based on the price: https://www.roverparts.com/exterior-...teps/STC50030/

I did not like how they looked on the 04. Maybe it will look better on a lift. The oems had a "soft" feel when I put my weight on it but I am 240, your results may vary. When I do get around to it I will use rock sliders with tree whatevers on them for the step.

OK that's all I needed to hear haha. Cannot stand that soft mushy feel. My parent's Yukon has side steps that feel this way and it's just not a great feeling.

My hatred of side steps or running boards is that they kill break over angles. Maybe the Disco ones fold up out of the way?

The factory tubular bars are stiffer and do not affect breakover angle. I coated mine with plasti-dip because I did not want the stainless look.

Around a year ago I scored a pair of original Safari Gard rock sliders that had been on an '02 Kalahari in a boneyard here.

I removed my original side steps and installed the sliders. I was a little surprised by how much they stand proud of the sill and function as a step w/o "tree bars".

The original Safari Gard company is long gone, but perhaps you can find something designed similarly.

There happens to be a pair on eBay right now, but they are for local pickup only, in Florida.
