Default Simple CDL question.

I just found out that my truck has the CDL nipple on top of the transfer case. I am going to look into installing a cable to be able to lock and unlock it. I haven't been able to find out which direction it should turn to lock (clockwise or counter-clockwise)? Also I have heard that having the CDL locked will turn off the traction control if its not hooked up properly, is this correct?

Thanks guys.

not sure of the rotation, but your traction control will stay on. It will only turn off if you turn the truck off then back on with the cdl engaged.

Looking down at the transfer case from the top, or as if you were sitting in the truck looking down at it through a transparent floor, you will need to turn about 80 degrees clockwise to engage the CDL. It's pretty smooth, you shouldn't have to apply a lot of force on it.

on some....if cdl is engaged and you kill the truck, you will have disabled tc upon restart. you will have 3amigos and have to disengage cdl and restart to clear.

There is a wire under the glove box you can cut to keep this from happening.

Thanks for the info. Does the TC get disabled even on newer d2s that came wirh the CDL linkage from the factory? If not is possible to prevent it by installing a cdl linkage from one of the newer trucks?

Dusty Are you saying you have to go from CDL to NON-CDL while the truck is running then turn off and then turn back on to clear 3-amigos? I have the amigos after I installed a new (used) tranny and t-case and I moved that thing back and forth 20 times making sure everything worked. Easiest way to explain it is you are lying under vehicle facing the rear and put your arm up ( I believe it's 11mm ? ) with an open end wrench and you go Clockwise to engage and Counter-clockwise to Disengage. You can hear a distinct "clunk" when it goes back and forth. Bottom of wrench facing you is basically at 4 o'clock Cdl dis-engaged and 8 Cdl Engaged

Here is one of the better write-ups on the CDL install along with curing the 3 amigo lights coming on if you engage the cdl with the engine off.

yes. exactly. only if i kill it with cdl engaged. (only really happens in snow or ice....or when the truck behind me has a problem, that i need attend to) normally, i would be disengaged before I am ready to kill it and get out, but if not i have to 1.start 2.disengage cdl 3. kill 4. start
