Anyone ever source some cheap cross bars that will mount on the factory roof rails? I'm not looking for a rack, just 2 or 3 bars I can toss up there to slide my kayak on to keep it off the roof. I've been using an old piece of carpet padding lolol and its worked great, but its starting to rot, and I think this is its last summer of service. plus the whopwhopwhop bang bang sound it makes when a corner gets loose in the wind while driving can be hair raising at times haha

 

sounds like a trip to Home Depot and the unistrut (electrical) aisle.

 

I'll bet you can find the factory crossbars pretty easily. I know on my D1, D2, and now D3, I've removed them and left them in the garage because they make so much noise. (well in the D1, they fit nicely under the seats). I try to put them back in the car when I sell it, but I'm sure some people have forgotten... I almost did on my D2.

Not sure if those would fit an 04. But should work nicely on earlier models.
