Default Sleeping in your DII ??

Hey there. just bought my first rover and pretty darn excited. It will be used for family outings on the river, towing my raft, camping in northern Idaho and Montana, and driving to work. What I am in search of is pictures/ideas of how people have slept in their dII's. I tried leaning 2nd row forward but it's not long enough on the floor? My thought is that I could built a removable raised platform that occupies the entire trunk and butts up against the back of the second row. Then fold the 2nd row down when needed, top half only, and run an air mattress over them and onto the raised platform I build???

I'm sure this has been done and would love to see pics and hear ideas.

Why not just pitch a tent? Curious.

We do, and always have. My daughters got the idea from the po and are pretty excited to sleep in the rover so I need to make it happen. And for me, not having to dry out a wet tent sounds nice too

Unrelated to your question, but you might want to look at my major service list and do the entire thing prior to taking your family out into the woods.
Also, if you are going out alot, you might want to consider adding a CDL linkage to your t.case to give you nearly 50% more traction.

I took my rear seats out with a T27 torx and put some foam and comforters in the back and slept there with the lady friend.

Let the baby sleep in the truck with her friends and you sleep in the tent. Easy no unnecessary platform to drag around. Besides what the heck are you going to do with this platform when cruising down the highway?

Thank you for the heads up. That is 100% my intent. I plan on going through it over the next few weeks. In the meantime I figured I'd start getting some ideas for the "sleeping inside".

The po added the "lever" underneath passenger floor board that allows the cdl lock in/out. I am assuming this is what you are referencing with cdl linkage?

Those are awesome!! Unfortunately my (wife's) budget wont allow anything but some ingenuity and my own time.

Ideally I'd love to leave it 100% intact so i can just grab and go after work on Friday. Since its a daily driver id prefer to leave it mostly stock. Excellent idea though and I appreciate the insight.

Good luck with the project, I also own a 99 so if you have any questions get back to me.
By the way, the most important item on my service list is the front drive shaft, make sure there is 1 grease fitting on each of the 3 front u-joints or it has to be fixed.

PO just had a brand new one built and balanced with receipts from our local shop.....the shop is very well known and did my custom shafts for my heep when I had it.

My biggest concern is the leak in the engine compartment. Gonna do the valve covers this week, wash it down, and make sure the head gasket isn't contributing to the leak. What other gotchas ? Thx
