Slow Coolant Leak, fan removal trouble
Hello, I have a slow leak I can kind of see where it's coming from, possibly the water pump. I tried to remove the fan today to get a better look, but failed.
I have a 36mm wrench, tried the hammer trick - everything just turned. I rented a fan clutch holder tool (OEM Fan clutch holding tool 27270- ReadReviews onOEM #27270), with no avail.....the holder tool slips first. Also, soaked in WD40 for about 12 hours, did nothing.
Any other suggestions. I was thinking either better penetrating fluid, or another holder tool, chain vice grip?
I'm loosening to the left (counter clockwise).
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Just to reinforce the accurate info, the fan is standard, right-hand thread. I've had mine off many times.
jhmover is wrong, Motorhead1 is correct.
I always use a large adjustable wrench on the hex, and a pry-bar between a bolt head and the center. Hit the wrench with a hammer and it's loose.
Here's another thread with some ideas. Can't say I've ever actually used the "correct" tools for this on any vehicle.

Wedge it under the center hub and on the top of one of the bolts that attach the pulley to the water pump (pry bar on the R side). This will prevent the pump from spinning CCW.
Mine got cross threaded coming off and I was never able to knock it loose, I had to fight it off the entire time. Very possible I did it wrong, but I think I did it backwards. Instead of holding the pulley and twisting the clutch counter clockwise (this kept slipping), I used the 36mm wrench and wedged it below a pump on the driver side to hold the clutch still. Then I used the pulley holder to spin the pulley clockwise.
Keep trying and soaking it with penetrating fluid. It is a normal thread, not backwards.
I had a hell of a time getting mine off, but was eventually able to do it. Get a big metal hammer to pound on the end of the fan wrench. Be firm but accurate, and whack it with authority. Eventually it'll go. Don't allow yourself to get frustrated. Take breaks in between whacking sessions or you risk pounding your engine to bits in anger.
