Default Slow or no start condition with no codes?

On my 03, I've noticed it randomly not starting (just cranking). I wait a few seconds, try again, and works fine. Or, it may crank for a couple seconds before firing up. I checked and there are no fault codes. Battery looks ok..

I've read about the Crankshaft position sensor and possible fuel pump/spark issues... Does the Crankshaft sensor acting up throw any codes? I would have thought I'd see some misfire codes or something if i wasn't getting spark, but that may be oversimplifying things as well.

Any info is appreciated!
Pete

My crankshaft position sensor did something like that, but it was only when the engine was warm (as in I parked at a store, came back out). Always worked fine on cold starts. Eventually it just gave up when I was going down the road, engine stalled, no fault codes.

Could be your fuel pump not holding pressure? Not sure, would have to check it at the rail.

Agree with the Caption. Does it start better, if you just turn it off and restart immediately, but if you let it sit for a while, few hours/over night, it takes 7/8 seconds to fire up? If so, I'd definitely start with checking fuel pressure and holding pressure. There is a port on the backside of the fuel rail, drivers side, under upper manifold, for checking proposes.

If it turns out being the fuel pump...I believe...there is an access cover in the rear of the vehicle, under carpet. Maybe google that, I've never checked under my carpet...but I think I've seen some pictures of one.

Oh yeah, welcome to the board. If you might be interested in doing some off-roading in the futher...check out my post about possibly starting a LR group. What part of MI are you located?

Brian.

To add to the above, if there's a difference also try pausing at Acc2 key position for 10 seconds when cold, because the fuel pump kicks on in acc2.

To to rule out the battery, first obviously check the voltage and connections, then hook up a battery charger and crank the car.
