ZG I was just busting your butt. I love my wheels, I had them on a different car and was happy to find out they fit the Disco.

Ed that was you in the lake? I saw it on Justins Lucky8 FB page. When I saw it I was hurting for you. Thanks for the awesome info you provided me. I think that I will spend time sealing things up before taking the snorkel plunge. Its great to know what you have shared.

ralleymax I always questioned why the the top of peoples snorkels a facing forward because of dirt, sand etc getting into the air box.Wk is one of the first that I have seen with it facing the rear. It makes perfect sense though. Looks like I will be busy making this truck water tight for the next few months...Down here its all mud, water and sand.

Yes, that was Ed. (I shot the picture and later sent it to Justin to post.) Until this happened I had been feeling pretty good about my D2 in the water, but I'll just say 'x2' for everything Ed said about the door seals. Mine looked fine, but leaked horribly.

Really, it's all moot once the water gets up over the tops of the doors. You either have your windows open so you can escape, or they're shut so you're praying the seals hold. In either case you had better plan on getting wet.

What I learned from Ed's experience isn't anything new, but it drove home the importance of the rule that says 'if you don't know the water hazard, then you need to walk it first.' If his windows had been up, he might not have gotten out of the truck. (Believe me, I know that went through Ed's head a couple times as his D2 made like the Titanic...)

Honestly my favorite snorkel design is the Defender one, where the intake is faced down. More air intake than facing backwards but less chance of getting dirt and sand into it than facing forward. Like this one:

you can get that pre-filter for the safari snorkel as well. yeah justin posted different pics of me in that hole. like Dave said you should always check a hole before crossing. I didn't because foolishly I thought I knew where I was when in all actuality I was completely wrong. By the time the water came up over the hood i put it in reverse and gunned it and then sandy bottom just sucked me in. i didn't reverse at all just went straight down. you can see my reverse lights still on when im on the roof. if the windows were up i would have been in real trouble because there was no way that door was opening with all the pressure on it. i would have had to climb to the back and kick out a window. of course i couldn't even get out a sunroof cuz of the roof rack was there with chicken coop flooring.

all in all im just happy no one was hurt and that disco put up with 4 very hard years of wheeling with out many major repairs or break downs until this.

now im onto building my range rover which needs a lot less electronics to run!

Yeah unfortunately it won't fit the disco, but the snorkel intake part is great.

Yeah I was referring to the raised air intake itself, not just the top part. You can make a lot of stuff fit on Rovers
