I know you'll never see this on a Toyota forum.

I;m surprise that they were allowed to get away with that,
i can think of any other car that you could physically lock someone into.

other than a paddy wagon or two i visted

My old 740il did it to. If you locked the car with the fob short of breaking a window you weren't getting out. My wife didn't believe me so she got to stay in the car while I went in for lunch. I waited 5 min and let her out to join me.

The paddy wagon would probably be easier to get out of.

I wonder if this would work instead of solder.
Conductive Glue

Probably not for long. since it is being pressed alot.
may be good on a wire that never get's touched.
I figure but, I've never tried it.

and about re-soldering the old buttons back on...some have had luck but, my problem with that was, the tabs on the old button that you solder to the board were broken and when you put the solder/heat right on the side of the tiny metal micro button case to resolder, the rubber part of the button inside would fry and not work anymore.

The new buttons I bought had enough tab on them to solder without touching the side of the button case with the soldering tip and heating the button up too much.

Trick is you have to have everything held in place and ready to go when you first touch the soldering tip to it so you don't heat up the new button too much.

One of those little gizmos with the alligator clamps and magnifying glass would be prefect.

I used hemostats to clamp the button in place with a magnifying glass taped onto the top of a stack of books hanging over it. Kind of a rig but it worked for me.
If I had to do it again I'd probably buy one the things mentioned above.

and... if you have not done any soldering before, it's a challenge since you'll be working in about a 1/32" area. I would practice soldering on something else before I tried on the remote's pcb.
You could easily ruin it for good.

If you have an electronics repair place nearby you could take the buttons and have them solder it on for probably less than you'd spend on solder, soldering gun, clamps, etc..

Explain to them it's a $250 + part and not a $10 TV remote and that you want the HMFIC to do the work, not some kid who just started last week.
