So what should I carry as a spare off the pavement?
I have in a box in the back of my discovery a thermostat, rotoflex, all fluids required by the vehicle, serpentine belt, a full array of tools and recovery equipment. I don't have cats, don't worry no codes put o2 spacers in when the cats rattled, do I really need a spare front shaft the local yard has a rebuilt one in a disco for 100?
Unless, you're going on an expedition across the Sahara I wouldn't get too carried away w/ spare parts. If u have a CDL fitted there's no need to lug around an extra prop shaft.
Now, If you're concerned about the prop breaking loose, you should think about how you're going to lug around an extra Tranny
Bring a good set of tools, duct tape, cable ties (preferably, large size), a AAA card, and a cell phone charger.
