Mine are pretty destroyed, especially after using the roofrack.

If I took all the plastic off and refinished the roof with a heavy enamel could I get the metal rails under there to look halfway decent?

Probably then have to extend that look by take off fairing plastic, etc.

ive been trying to figure for the life of me what they are made out of. I wanna powder coat mine and don't wanna order new ones and I figure if I paint them, it would look better than the truck

Well...it's definitely sun and roof rack brittle plastic on top of steel. question is if it's relatively uniform and could be smoothly covered by powder or enamel and look good enough. mine would snap off in 5 minuted if i gave it a go.

junkyard isn't an option right now although i'm having my best dealings to date with a used parts supplier at the moment who's helped me through a bunch of fixs.

So what's the D2 like without the plastic roofrails ......... it looks better, mine has none, roofrails are an option. They are made from cast alu I believe with a powder coated finish. They start to leak rainwater into the cab area after the rubber sealing gasket perishes, you are better off without them.

You'll need these gaskets then.

I thought he was talking about the rain gutter trim around the perimeter of the roof, who would have thought it was the the cargo rails he was referring to!

Good work France!
