Default soliciting advice for evaporative cannister issue

I have a 1996 Discovery, which has been extremely reliable. However, my check engine light came on recently, so I put a "code reader" on it, and it returned code # P0441. I researched the code online, and it said that the problem is "evaporative emission control system, incorrect purge flow". I did a lot of online research about this before coming to this forum.

I don't think it's a leak, but I found out sometimes the gas cap might be the source of the problem. I fiddled with the cap to ensure a good seal, and put out the check light.

If it comes on again, I'm assuming I'll need to replace the evap cannister, or the solenoid, or both? I'm not a mechanic, so I'm looking for advice.

I'm also assuming the cannister is the big black cannister in front of the windshield washer container...and the solenoid is the little round item with several hoses and an electrical connector mounted on the cannister?

Also...what's a ballpark estimate for a new cannister and a new solenoid? Do you recommend a particular dealer, or can I order it at the local Checker Auto Parts?

Thanks for all your help!!!

I would start by replacing your gas cap.
Only after that would I look into anything else.
Make sure that you buy a non vented gas cap. 90% of them are non vented but just make sure when you buy one.
No you dont need to buy it at the dealer.

441 is an incorrect purge flow, not a cap. For some reason, be a leak or failure of a part, your evap system is not sucking hard enough.

Mine did that a year or so ago, I took off the plug to the purge valve and turned the key on with out starting it then turned the key off reinstalled the plug and started the truck.
Reset the codes and have had no light from that day.

I did not start out do that, it was a sequence of events that led to that as I was checking the EVAP system.
