Somebody glued my water pump on with silicone!

My truck suffered a complete water pump failure this weekend. I had already bought a replacement, but hadn't gotten around to installing it yet. Such is life, I guess. That's why every D2 owner should have AAA.
Anyway, the replacement procedure was going smoothly, but now I'm at an impasse. It seems that at some point, a person installed the existing water pump and used silicone in lieu of a gasket. Now the damn thing is hanging on there tighter than a thirsty tick, and I can't figure out any way to pry it off. I tried sliding a 12" breaker bar into the nozzle to get some leverage, but no dice. I've also beat the **** out of it with a hammer with no visible results. Anybody have any ideas before I attack the seam with a cold chisel? I really don't want to risk damaging the front cover of the engine.
