Someone called it a Jeep
Well, after 3 years of ownership someone called it a Jeep. The thing I don’t understand is that they were driving a well sorted Jeep Gladiator. I can kind of understand someone not caring enough to make the distinction if they don’t care for cars or 4x4’s but to be driving a 50k Jeep and not know…

My Disco 2 was called a jeep by a cop in Gainsville, Georgia....
Cop: Do you know why I pulled you over?
Me: No Sir I don't.
Cop: Your brake lights are constantly illuminated on your rear bumper.
Me. Oh. Sir, those are fog lights due to the overcast and fog.
Cop: Why do jeeps need fog lights?
Me: For safety Sir.
Cop: Have a good day.

It's like ordering food and telling the cashier you want a Coke.., but you end up getting a Dr. Pepper or a Tea or whatever. To most, the default older looking, square SUV is a Jeep. I had an electrician at my house a few weeks ago call my D1 a Jeep. I just nodded.

For half a decade I daily drove an fj40. When people at the fuel station or store parking lot said "nice jeep" i just said thank you and left it be.
my toddler son ( I got the fj when he was @2) was the one who would correct them. He rode in the back and it was a soft top which was rolled up 90% of the time. He loved to respond "its not a jeep, it's a land cruiser". As a dad I thought it was the coolest response ever.
I get it with the 40 but not with a D2.
jeep, in America, has the best name recognition. Sadly they suck.
I get the mix up between a d1/d2 and and a land cruiser. They are similar but an fj60/62/80 is like a reliable wife and the d1/d2 are like the crazy gf that constantly gives you grief and headache but the ride is amazing.
