Default Something strange with 16 inch rims/wheels

Hi amigos, noob here...

Late '99 Disco II

I've just switched out my 18 alloys for 16 inch alloys - and now there is this clicking noise from the rear when I apply the brakes and moving at a slow speed.
The tires went from 255/55R18 to 255/65R16, so not much of a change there, and the new tires are nearly new.
When I switch back to the 18's, then the click is gone... I've checked clearances around the tires/brakes/rims/etc...

The click is definitely a click, and not a thud - can't feel it, just hear it.

Any thoughts?

Rich

I think you might have a small rock in the tread of your tire or the dust shield might have pealed away the wheel balancing weight from the inside of the rim and it dangling.

Thanks for the reply, Aroshan. I've checked those areas - unfortunately those aren't the problem. Kinda worried it's in the drive train somewhere.

If it's only with the 16inch rims on it could be a loose center cap, or a set of sticky weights hitting the brake caliper (seen it happen a lot). The only other thing that can click are loose lug nut caps, but you'd have that on the 18's as well.

Get one front and the opposite side rear off the grounds and spin them. Try to pinpoint the sound.

Thanks all for the advice. I've spent as much time as I could (which wasn't as much as I would have liked) under it looking for any sign of potential contact. No luck. Didn't have a chance to jack the whole thing up and spin the wheels - it would have probably revealed the problem. I'm sending it in the The Rover Shop on Tuesday for a valley gasket replacement - I'll ask them to check it out for me.
