Default Sophisticated Radiator Fan Shroud Mount Upgrade

Having recently replaced a radiator due to a leak from a crack in the tank where one of the fan shroud mounting screws goes I decided to take a good look at just how those screws functioned and devise a better system. The screws hold the lower portion of the shroud down into clips on the bottom of the radiator, and the upper shroud then attaches to the lower shroud. After giving it lots of thought, and having access to all sorts of machine tools and specialized equipment, I was able to fabricate the new mounting system shown in the attached pictures.

I know it seems cheesy but the locations of the channels for the return line on top of the shroud are perfect for keeping the piece in the right place using the zip ties. I was going to make up a piece that mounted where the radiator bolted on but this approach works perfectly. The shroud is as secure as it was with the screws and I don't have to worry about another cracked tank. I seriously recommend that everyone with a D2 do this. Most of the leaking D2 radiator posts I've seen are the result of a crack at the same location I had, and this should prevent it from happening.

Hate to admit it, but I've still got the RTV in mine from the first days I owned it and it's holding strong. No sign of leaks yet. I rarely go off road, and when I do, I'm with others, so I'm not too concerned about getting stuck. I also watch, and listen (alarm) to my UG closely, and easily notice any slight smell of coolant, so the temp will not get away from me if it does spring a leak.

Thanks to this thread and 1 other ( http://www.landroversonly.com/forums...adiator-36679/), I was able to replace my radiator in half the time (vs RAVE) and resolve the most common point of failure! Many thanks for several hours of my life back and improved reliability!!
