My 02 disco sounds like it has a valve tapping on the right side of the engine. It doesnt happen all the time though.. Could it be sticking?? I cannot hear it when I close the hood though.. I dont think it is a spark jumping but Ill check it at night.. Anyone have some advice on where to go with this problem next.. I dont want to take the covers off if I dont have to but.....

 

Exhaust leaks can sound very similar to valve tapping. Also, when was the last time you flushed your engine? How many miles?

 

Ok flushed the engine.... I have not.. I do see a small fluid leak around the manafold, more of a discoloration though from fluid... What does an engine flush do??

 

Using 6 quarts of atf in your engine for 20 minutes at idle will clean out the sludge and goo that may be associated with a sticky valve. How many miles are on your truck?

 

88,400 miles... 6qts of antifreeze?? or is atf something else? Is there a good post on a howto for this or is it easy?

 

Drain your oil. Fill it back up with 6 quarts of automatic transmission fluid (atf). Run at idle for 20 minutes. Drain the atf and change your oil filter. Fill with your oil. Drive for 1000 miles then do another oil change. That should do a good cleaning. I just did mine not but 2 weeks ago to prepare for winter.

 

At 88,000 miles you are surely due for a flush. Did mine at 77,000. Yeah okdiscoguy, my mileage is actually even lower then what's posted in my sig. haha! [sm=bling.gif]

 

great thanks guys! What should the atf look like when it comes out?? Also if I run synthetic is that going to mix ok with the leftover atf?

 

Synthetic is fine. Expect the atf to be less transparent when it drains out and hopefully a little darker. Change your oil after 1000 miles to get the risidual atf out and you'll be fine. Let us know how it goes and if the tapping still exists. You may want to take a closer look at the leak you described previously and get back with us as to what color and where etc.

 

I hate you. I do have a headliner now, along with all of the goodies I was missing or broken for the interior.......even the shift tape. All for under $100. I even bought new Magnacors. I like to think it is just getting broken in now.....147K...
