Default Spare on roof rack?

Hey Gang,
How many of you keep your spare on the roof rack? I was running into visibility issues out the rear window. It's a bit hard to see around my 32" spare. I just bought a used SD rack and I'm thinking that may be a good place to stick it.
I'm thinking of just fabing some kind of way to secure it to the rack instead of paying near 100$ for a mount.
Any ideas?
Cheers
j

Have seen it done many many times, the securing is the main issue and the fact that it weighs a wee bit. the distance from up there to down here is pretty far when you are all by yourself.

I made a bracket for mine and carried it there for a while, but it was a PITA and reduced even further then number of parking garages I could get in to.
I don't find a 32" to obstruct my vision significantly. Then again, my interior rear view mirror fell off about 8 years ago and I haven't bothered to replace it.

You could mount the tire on the bonnet like a Series Rover.

Its going to be a PIA to get it up and down if you get a flat.

I am going to throw mine up there ..Going to get a piece of all thread in the 3/4 in. range about 6 inches long and use a flat piece of 1/4 in. thick aluminum from work about 12 in square . Bolt that to the rack and have the all thread bolted to the aluminum plate . go through the center cap hole of the rim and use a big wing nut to secure it to the rack ..Should work OK i guess , But its gonna be a pain in the tail to remove by yourself.

I've seen it done a few times. I had a tire up there when I was delivering 4 tires to someone and the wind noise was very much more noticeable.

I think the spare would look awesome on the bonnet of a Disco! But you would have the same issue cause the tire would reduce frontal visibility. and it would be a ROYAL pain in the *** to pop open the bonnet for routine repairs or service.
