Default Spare tire mount

Does anyone know if I can fit a 265 75 15 on the spare mount as if, do I have to flip it over?

Should the nuts that it mounts to be captive? Or do I need to pull the interior panel to hold the back?

I think rust is going to make this much harder than it should be.

Needs to be flipped for a 265/75R16, nuts are not captive, must remove inner panel, yes, rust is always a problem.

I just put a 275/70/18 on the back of mine. Didn't have to flip the bracket - just used only two of the lug nuts.

I ended up pulling it off, sanding, prepping, painting and putting it back together. THe spacers were starting to drip rust, so would of had to do it anyway.

Not a good idea. Only two nuts means you have a horizontal line of potential flex; over time, the combined weight and leverage of the tyre will tear the bolts out of the bracket. With three nuts this is prevented.

I hadn’t thought about that. Good point.

I made this adapter plate from 1/4" aluminum. No modifications are required. It just requires an M14x1.5 lock nut, an M14x1.5x45 bolt and some washers or a spacer.
