Default Spark, no crank, no fuel?

Twice in the last week we have been left stranded with our 03 D2. Both times we had driven it, parked for 20min-1hr, and when we came back no cranking. I checked for loose battery and we had good power to operate everything else, and also tried jumping from another car. My first suspect was the wire to the starter, which seemed nice and tight. Last night when this happened, I used a jumper wire with alligator clips to activate the starter, and it cranked immediately just fine. With the ignition in run, it fired up and died after about 2 seconds. We tried this several times, and it would fire and run for maybe 1 or two seconds, so I"m making the assumption we are not getting fuel. I jumped the started directly on the starter, and also by clipping to the wiring just behind the battery near the fuses and relays.

Both times we have been stranded, by the time I got a ride home and came back with my other vehicle and tools, it started right up and ran fine.

Could it be any of these?:
1-one of the relays?
2-the anti theft system?

It sounds like the very same experience I had with my 2001 Disco 2. It ended up being my Crankshaft position sensor.
I bought a new Duralast unit from Advanced Auto and that one ended up going bad 2 months later. I then bought a Bosch unit #0261210158 from them and it's been excellent so far... but... it's been only a week so we'll see... touch wood...
You get the Bosch CPS at RockAuto for $40.

But if it was the crankshaft sensor would it not still engage the starter and try to fire

I had the same problem with my 03. Battery cables were lose and damaged I would inspect those and ground wire that connects to battery

Hi

It sounds like the fuel pump failing or a blocked fuel filter or return valve at a guess. I'm not clued up on V8's as mine is a TD5.

Glad you found the problem, just FYI crank position sensor will give similar symptoms.
