Default Spark plug gap

I cheked my plugs today and they are NGK R's gaped at .050. Any reason
to set them so wide? 98 Disco 116,000 miles. I have not had it long and
have no ideal how long they have been in.

Seems too wide, do you still have the under hood sticker or owners manual that show the correct gap?

The sticker shows it should be .033 to .038

Are you still running on factory wires, how gooa shape are the current plugs in? You might seriously consider a new set of Magnacor 8mm wires and plugs as needed.

Just bought a set of the 8mm Magnacor's. I was just checking the plugs before I installed the wires. I think I will get plugs and do it all at one time.

Well, Did numerous research on the web about the subject of spark plug gap, and the experts agree that the best gap to run, is the biggest one possible that your coils can afford to jump. On my 2000 D2, the plug gap is suppose to be between .038 and .042 I got less estrictive wires on there, so I set my gap at .045 someD2 ownersrun their gaps at .050. As long as the spark can jump it!!!!

This results in apparently better performance and fuel economy, because the fuel is completely burned. Dr.Jacobs is one such expert, and has pretty good write-ups on the subject.

I just had a Magnecor boot pull apart, I can't say I'm impressed.

How do you know when you have gone to far on the gap? Mine seems to run pretty
good right now.I get 15 .7 mpg on regular unleaded. I just ran 4 tanks of 91 octane and only got 14.6 mpg.

Thanks,

Yeh, and you just had it worked on by the dealer who probably screwed them up.
If the dealer won't take care of them then go to the person you bought them from, they have a lifetime warranty.

I would be a little concerned about throwing that much load against the old Rover coils. If you are running some low resistance plug wires like the Magnacor wires or better, 55,000 volts is maxing out the coils and they are not cheap to replace.
