I'm changing my spark plugs and wires tomorrow and was wondering if anyone had a diagram of the wire order. The check engine light is on now so I just wanna make sure they arent in the wrong spot before I start.

I will also clean the throttle body and ICV. ANything else to clean??

 

AutoZone can give you a diagram. But 99% of the time they are on right.
Clean the oil seperator, it is the PCV system coming from the left side of the engine, on the valve cover going to the intake plenum. Remove the hose from the vavle cover and there should be a lirrle plastic thing inside the valve, use needle noise plyers and pull it out and clean it.

What brand of plug wires are you going to use?

 

Bosch I believe.

 

Bought them aty AutoZone didnt you? Do yourself a favor, return them and buy a set of Magnecore plug wires. If you install the Bosch wires you will just be replaceing them in a month.

No. I work on BMW part time so I have a local shop which wholesales me German parts. No american crap parts. What is the difference in the wires? Bosch is a very good brand. I got Champion plugs since they were recommended.

 

Well over the years I have come to find out that most manufactors do not make their own crap, they have somebody else do it then they put their name on it. Yes Bosch is a good brand. But their Rover wires suck ***.
The plugs are right ontop of the exhaust manifold and get TONS of heat and the wires get fried. The Magnecors not only take the heat but have a liftime warrenty also.
I have had my '97 for 18 months and 22,000 miles, I am in need of my THIRD set of plug wires. Like you I didnt know about the Magnecors and I usedDuralast wires, lifetime warrenty how bad can they be? Good thing it doesnt cost me any money for new ones.
Once I have the money I will buy the Magnecors and return, once again, theDuralast wires.

 

How do you know when your wires are shot on these discoverys? What is the price of magnecors?

 

You know when they are shot because your check engine light will come on and you will get a O2 code and then when they get real bad you will get a mis-fire code, then you will feel the mis fire at idle, and then when they get really bad it will want to stall when you come to a stop light.

 

My check engine is on now. Will new wires alleviate that? It runs kinda rough but doesn't feel like its gonna stall. But I havent driven it too far either. How do you go about turning off the check engine light on these beasts?
