Could be a wiring problem, or a loose connector on one of the speakers. a few months ago, I had to take my door panels off to test the speakers. You could play with the balance/ fader options to see which one is the culprit before taking panels off. When removing the door panels, you need to remove the screws and nuts holding the handle inplace and the plastic ring around it. LAso, there are 3 or 4 screws at the bottom of the front door panels. When remountng, be careful because the retaining pins will break if you don't line them up properly to their respective holes.

I have been having a similar issue on the passenger side of my 01 Discovery, but mine also includes the A/C blower not working! I had been looking into the A/C issue when I noticed that the audio was cutting out on the passenger side whenever the A/C gremlin shows up.
I am suspecting that there may be a common ground connection somewhere that is working itself loose.

could be any number of things, the amp could be acting up, the wiring could be loose or damaged, doesn't sound like a short because that will usually cut out the whole amp, but if you have any hacked wiring it could be playing a role. would be pretty confident in saying it is highly doubtful the speakers are going bad at the same exact times, I would check the connector at the amp and then work from there, you may need to run a new wire from the amp to the speakers to see if that will eliminate it.

I don't have any hacked wiring that I am aware of but that is definately a good thing for me to check just to eliminate something as a possibility.
The only thing audio-wise that has been done is that the dealer replaced the CD changer a couple of years back, but it is any audio on the right side that fails. It does make a fairly loud pop when it is in it's non-working mode and I turn the audio on.
Thanks!

the amp is high in the passenger kick panel (it will be forward of the top door hinge) when you remove the panel below there you will find a bunch of wire that are on a bracket that is just bolted to the metal (this will be on both sides) just unbolt them and get a wire brush, clean the surface really good and then tighten the bolts back down.
if you need more info. just let me know
