Mike, Thanks! I though so too, but I couldn't find it anywhere. Also, check your PM, feel free to cut and paste the message into the forums if you think it's beneficial info.
Spike, I'm still wrestling this "over extension of my rear shocks" thing. Mike, OME, RTE, and GBR all say I have the correct shock in the rear for a 2 inch lift, but I'm smacking the crap out of it every time I extent the shock. So, I asked my mechanic to help me out.
He measured the shock while my disco was sitting level. He measured 22 inches. Then he fully extended the shock, and measured 23 1/8 inches. These measurements are all done with a tape measure and are aprox. Anyway, that's only giving me 1 1/8 inches of up travel. Which is probably why I'm over extending the shock. So, he was recommending some Rancho shocks that increase the total extension to 24 2/3 inches adding about an inch and a half of additional travel(9 1/2 inches total travel). He was cautious to recommend anything with much more then that because he was unsure of what the SLS would extend to without damage.
Knowing that Rancho shocks get a bad rap here, I wanted to explore other options from OME and Bilstine. I found the Bilstine 5150's have the correct mounts (sweet little reservoir attached to the shock) and custom valving options. The 5150 (BF5-A196-H1) has a little over 10 inches of travel. With a full extension of 25.91 inches giving me, what would appear to be plenty of headroom.
So I guess to answer your question directly, I wanted to see if a shock with 10 inches of travel was going to potentially damage my airbags, or maybe I could even go with the next size up which is 11 or 12 inches of travel. I'm collecting data and the full stock travel of those SLS airbags was one of the missing pieces.
It's still a mystery why MY shocks are over extending when DiscoMike is running the same setup and presumably many other people being that RTE (and a few other shops) sell these kits.
Thanks,
Brian

AH!! I found a site that talks about the travel of the suspension.
http://www.offroadexperience.com/veh...ewsdiscoII.htm
Summary: "12.4 up front & 12.8" in rear..."
Nice! So... Looking at my last comment. It looks like I could get the 11 or 12 inch 5150s and be OK?

Opps. Yeah, I just went back and read my post from yesterday. I gave Mike the credit for the travel comment. Sorry about that... actually it looks like I reversed the posts altogether.
YEAH! within a fraction of an inch! Cool... So I know I didn't significantly increase the size of my tires (by dropping down from an 18 inch rim to a 16 and adding 245 BGFs) so I shouldn't have to worry about stuffing a tire... Hmm..
Mike PM'd me with some alternate shock mounting ideas, in order to keep my OMEs and solve my problem, so I'm excited to see what can be done there too.
Inching closer....
