Default 4.0 and 4.6 camshaft specifications

Does anyone have the camshaft specifications for the 4.0 and 4.6 on hand. I would like the numbers for my rebuild. If you are going to ask what for:

1999 Disco 2
60K with top hat liners from LA sleeve
Modified with Harland Sharp stud mount roller rockers and guides.

Please help with specifics.

Here are some pages on things like end float. Note that lifters come as orange or red color code for the two dfferent displacements. The RAVE general specifications has stuff like valve open / close, etc.

RPI has a bit more here RPi Engineering - V8 Engine and Component List

and forget the fuel injection ----- just kidding...

I looked through all that you provided and did not see any specs on cam lift or duration. Any other placed to check.

The RPI info has duration, etc for a number of aftermarket cams at the bottom of their info. I'll guess you are not grinding your own, Ed Iskenderian said his first attempts with a new machine produced cams you could shave with.

You should be able to calculate duration from the information in RAVE:

Inlet valves:
⇒ Opens 28° BTDC
⇒ Closes 77° ABDC
Exhaust valves:
⇒ Opens 66° BBDC
⇒ Closes 39° ATDC

I'm not sure about lift.

see Bearings, Balancers, Crankshafts, Oiling System Parts, Blocks, Front Covers & Heads, Cams, Lifters, Chain Sets, Push Rods, Rocker Assemblies, Valves, Valve Guides, Valve Springs, Gaskets they also publish duration and lift numbers. From an older post - The lift for the 4.0L camshaft is listed in the RAVE manual (valve lift .3913 I/E, duration 285 degrees I/E, overlap seems to be 142 degrees from I opening to E opening).

Not sure if anyone wants the dimensions for a stud mount rocker system, but it is easy to make for the rover. I had some Harland Sharp rockers laying around and decided to put them to use. Things you need to buy:

.500 x 1.5 x 8ft cold rolled flat stock. $30.00
Roller rockers $150.00
Adjustable guide plates from Summit $16.00
7/16 stud kit from Summit $30.00
Buick small block lifters $80.00
Custom fit push rods 5/16 $70.00

The lifters will have a oil meter hole on them, and you will need appropriate push rods with oil holes on the ball ends. The mounting plate for the studs will cover the oil supply holes on the heads. . I'll post some pictures when I get a bit of time.

I did this for the heck of it as well as some fun for me. You need to be a competent machinist as well as a good engineer to do this at home like I did. Horsepower gain: about 2-5 hp. Cool factor: 100

This was a complete rebuild with LA sleeves installed by Opel Engineering in Illinois. It made sense for me to do this at the time while most components were replaced. I am considering some bigger valves and mild porting as well. I have not seen any information on porting for the 4.0 at all. This motor is a pile of crap otherwise, and takes a bit of effort to make it reliable, and long lasting. 60K and a slipped sleeve. Good thing I bought it for $800.00
