Sprayed Idle Air Control Valve with Throttle Body Cleaner What now ..
I have a Land Rover Discovery II. The guy at Autozone told me not to use Lucas Valve cleaner on the ICV and I believed him. So I drenched the ICV (and the electronics inside that measures the airflow of course) with Lucas Valve Cleaner. Then I realized there was a oil coating .... and it has Petroleum in it.
So I drenched it with MAF cleaner. Now it's making a funny noise. Am I going to have to buy a brand new BOSCH idle control valve for $300 or is this thing toast....

I've cleaned IAC's for years with Brake Cleaner/Throttle Body Cleaner. I've seen some pretty nasty IAC's in my day & not a one of them has ever acted up. In all the years of messing with Bosch Engine equipped LR's I've never honestly replaced one! I've always just cleaned them.
BTW what is the funny noise? The center piece is supposed to spin if you shake the unit in your hand. They also can buzz like Collie mentioned with the key on Position II.

Ok so it appears the IAC is ruined. Before it would make a rough sandpaper noise. The needle would go down until it slowly set to 750 RPM. Now I'm getting a weird noise and a bad idle. Code 1509. I think I ruined it by violently shaking it thinking there was solvent inside the electronics because there is this lip inside. Like a twisty lip that goes into the electronics. So either the Royal Purple (not Lucas sorry it was Royal Purple) cleaner ruined it by seeping inside and coating the electronics with residue or I ruined it by violently shaking it trying to get the liquid out. Either way I gotta shell out $300 online for a new one now. Great. Just great.
I JUST cleaned one today on old mater! Completely frozen up, sprayed full of brake cleaner, let it soak, and gently tapped on the ground (with a towel down) center broke loose, cleaned it more, and put it back. Zero issues! 99.9% a used one should be fine.
