Default sputtering when accelerating

I have an 04 disco. When I accelerate after being stopped or slowing to very low speed (under 10mph) I can feel / hear a sputtering sound. It feels like you're driving over a very bumpy surface just for a second around 1200rpm and then stops. Has anyone ever heard of this?

What grade of gas are you using? When was your last tune up?

93 octane, recently @ rover mech to repair other issues, and cleared check engine code for fuel cap.

i was gonna post the same problem. i have a 96 disco and i just had it tuned up last week. clean throttle body, clean plugs, new air filter (not K&N), new oil, and i use 95 octane premium gas. i mean what the f***!!!

the truck runs smoothly when i start her up but after going a few kms, i can feel the engine dying down. when i slow down or stop, the engine sputters and then dies. also emits clouds of smoke while its doing this. when i got to the parking lot, i popped up the hood and took a looksy. the engine was vibrating like hell!! i pushed in the MAF sensor multiplug and moved it backward and forward a bit. and the engine ran smoothly after that. its not loose or anything but i have never pulled the plug off he sensor before to check if its clean or not. could it just be a loose multiplug or could it be the MAF itself? if its just the plug, can i just clean it and plug it in more securely? does a shot MAF cause the truck to cough up like a volcano? is there any other possible source of the trouble?

one problem after another! this is getting frustrating.

Only at 1200rpm? Maybe bad gas? My other thought was plugs and wires.

If you are blowing white smoke then you have a blown head gasket. If it is blue you are burning oil, black you are being flooded with gas.
Lets hope its one of the last two.
So which is it?

most of it was white but im sure there was black mixed in it. cant be too sure coz it was mid day here and the sun was kinda obscuring my view. the thing is, it only smoked when it was sputtering and it immediately stopped when i pushed in the MAF multi-plug. do you think it just might be bad combustion mixture that caused the smoke?

sorry to butt-in your thread skyguy. shoulda opened a new one in the first place.

It may have been a bad connection at the MAF sensor. Time will tell.
