This is what you get when the front drive shaft breaks.

 

If you plan on keeping your disco for some time,replace or rebuild your front driveshaft.Many have failed without warning.I rebuilt mine(Just for peace of mind,there were no noises) for less than $100 including beer.

 

I had the same problem. It was the front u joint on the driveshaft. If you hear a chirping at lower speeds them it goes away at higher speeds I wouldn't drive it until you pull the shift (8 bolts) and look at the u joint. In my case I saw nothing wrong with it until I pulled it and then I could see exposed rod bearings. If the driveshaft fails you will get a lot of damage. A new one with greasable joints is worth the money if you still have the original one on your truck.

 

Jack it up and check for loose wheel bearings.
If the wheel bearings need lube, the metal to metal will degrade and you will get some clearance.

That way you can narrow it down.

If your drive shaft is greasable, just grease it.
That will squeak a lot before the U joint completely fails and it drops.

Did you replace the centering ball also.

 

I took it to a friend to pull the bearing, but yes I rebuilt the the whole front shaft. I even lined up the grease fittings

 

Does anyone know the watts of the stereo amp in the 2002 discovery?

 

after rebuilding the front drive shaft, the squeaking noise went away. But I find that my disco2 has a slight vibration that starts around 35 miles an hour and the vehicle passed inspection fairly easy (meaning that the brakes and rotors passed, tires passed...Any ideas or suggestions on what could be causing the problem? Any advice would be greatly appreciated-thanks

 

Did you rebuild the drive shaft or have it done? If you built it, did you get it aligned? Once rebuilt, I believe everything has to be balanced, and from what I understand, only a shop can do that. But, I could be wrong. That may be your issue, though. You could take it to a driveshaft shop and see if it is out of balance.
