Default Squeaking from my brakes

I notice my brakes making squeaky noise sometime, i think its almost time to change the pad since the noise never happen before.

I was wondering if anyone has experience and knowledge with changing brake pads and would like to share.

Can you recommend a brand name and/or type of brake to get.
I see there's ceramic pad and semi-metallic pad, what is best? what is good enough for a land rover?

I dont not want some cheap duralast pads that make noise or vibration, etc.

any knowledge, comments, etc. would be appreciated.

I changed my pad for my parents 2000 camry before, is there anything different from the land rover brake pads? Only the front of camry was disc brake, the rear were drums. I know rover has 4 disc brakes, so twice the work LOL

P.S. I will be looking at my brake pads this weekend through the caliper, to see if it needs replacing. And i will be reviewing the brake pad changing manual provided by this great site.

personally.. disc is easier than drum. less parts to replace. atlantic british sells front brake kits for what i feel are decent prices. make sure you replace the rotors as well or you will be wasting those new pads you plan on installing. pad-slapping is never a good idea.

If you have the cash akebono ceramic pads are the best. Squeaky breaks can cause the ABS system to freak out and they are long lasting and don't leave dust all over the alloys

Rotors from anywhere as long as they aren't slotted are great. I got my rears for $30 each at o reilly and the fronts for like $70 each

Squeaking can also come from stuck calipers. Since you'll be there anyway, make sure that they slide freely on their guides, and add grease if necessary. If they are stuck and not too far gone, they can be saved too.

Ok sounds good, thanks for all the advice. Will take a closer look at my brakes this weekend. Should be a nice warm (above freezing) weekend.

The disk brake system is attuned to a certain mass and coefficient of friction between the brake pads and the drum.

You put any old pads in there - good pads or not - and it may squeal.

Coefficient of friction has to be correct - as is required with ROVER pads.
The anti squeal hardware also has to be attached and has to be in new condition - the tensile strength of those springs has to be up to spec.

The rotors can't be glazed or have oil on them.

All of this stuff MATTERS.

And if only one of these variables is out of whack - you get squeal under certain temperature and braking conditions.
